Materials for Older Students

MINAS has also expanded its materials for older students, working with the staff at the Illinois State Museum to create a magnificent “Timeline of Illinois Cultures” that explores the resiliency of human life in this state since the last Ice Age. In this work, students match beautifully-illustrated picture cards and information cards to a color-coded timeline that illustrates each major archaeological era. An accompanying Teacher Resource Guide provides teachers with bibliographies, worksheets, and lesson plans for a wide variety of activities that enable students to immerse themselves in an era. As a natural extension for the Montessori Elementary study of humankind, this material also serves as an amazing introduction to Illinois state studies and is aligned to ISBE standards. Other materials in development for Middle School students include Timelines of Evanston and Chicago history, beginning with specific local prehistoric fauna and flora; materials on pre-Columbian exploration of the Americas, and investigation of archaeological artifacts and methods.
